American Startup Revives Ancient Dire Wolves

April 10, 2025

The American startup Colossal has 'revived' dire wolves, which went extinct over 10,000 years ago. Scientists modified the genetic code of regular gray wolves to resemble the DNA of ancient specimens, then implanted the edited eggs into a surrogate mother. As a result, three puppies were born - two males and one female. In the future, they also aim to bring back dodos, thylacines, and mammoths using similar methods (and in the process, even created 'mammoth mice').
